However recent legislation and safety considerations have restricted the traditional series method of battery charging to a maximum of 3 x 12V batteries connected in series.
Hawkins have considered the legal, safety and technical aspects of bulk charging 12V batteries and solved the problem with the Hawkins 2400 Bank Charger. This sophisticated charger conforms to SABS IEC 335-2-29 and the Machinery & Occupational Safety Act by connecting pairs of batteries in parallel – a bank of 20 batteries. This method is completely safe and overcomes the great hazard to the operator inherent in the alternative of charging 20 batteries connected in series.
SInce it is a regulated taper charger delivering a current of 100A with a voltage limit of 28,8V, the Hawkins 2400 Bank Charger has the further great benefit of allowing batteries of similar capacities to be connected and charged together and avoiding the damaging consequences of charging many dissimilar batteries connected in series. Each pair will cease to accept a charge once the voltage limit has been reached. The operation of the charger is simple and will appeal to the smallest entrepreneur and largest corporation alike.
